Redondo Beach is a beach community in the South Bay of Los Angeles just south of Hermosa Beach and west of Torrance. Redondo Beach is often divided into two logical North/South areas with 190th Street as its boundary line. Redondo Beach consists of 6.3 square miles and hosts some of the finest beaches in the Los Angeles area.
South Redondo is a bit more on the quiet side; its wide streets, wide sand beaches and laid-back feeling make it a prime destination for those seeking a "bike to the grocery store" community. Redondo Beach is also home to King Harbor, one of the finest recreational marinas on the west coast, and has numerous fine restaurants in the King Harbor area and on the Redondo Beach Pier. The Esplanade is a street running the length of the beach in Redondo with homes and apartments with ocean front property.
North Redondo is the home of the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, one of the South Bay's premier cultural facilities, and home to the Civic Light Opera of the South Bay Cities. It is also home to the South Bay Galleria Shopping Center and a revitalized Artesia Boulevard
At the southern tip of Redondo Beach is a quaint little part of town affectionately termed Riviera Village, a shopping village with excellent shops and restaurants. "Riviera Village" provides locals an opportunity to eat, shop and commune in a quiet atmosphere. In the last five years, several new or newly renovated restaurants have made a positive impact on local options for an on-the-town experience. Riviera Village also supports a number of independent boutiques and shops specializing in clothing and fashion, as well as a few wine-tasting establishments.
 
Culture:

The center of cultural and arts programs in Redondo Beach is the
Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. This 1,457 seat theatre hosts the South Bay Civic Light Opera company as well as the Distinguished Speaker Series where such speakers as Astronaut John Glenn, Former First Lady Rosalyn Carter, President Bill Clinton, author Amy Tan, former Secretary of Education William Bennett, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Tom Brokaw, Margaret Thatcher and former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice who have graced the stage.

Schools:

The Redondo Beach Unified School District consists of eight elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school (Redondo Union High School), one continuation school, and one adult school.  Not only have most all Redondo schools been awarded “A California Distinguished School ”, a strong partnership between home, school and community exists between all Redondo Elementary schools.
 
 
 
Taxes

The property tax rate for the fiscal year 2009-2010 is 1.074359% (computed by the standard 1.0% of the property's assessed valuation (in accordance with Proposition 13, a property's assessed valuation is the original purchase price, plus the cost of improvements, based on the value of permits pulled, plus an increase in valuation of 2% per year) plus additional tax rates for voted bonded indebtedness) plus direct assessments of approx. $500-$1,600 per parcel for such items as school parcel taxes, etc..

Taxes are assessed for the fiscal year running from July 1st through June 30th, with property tax bills payable in two installments on December 10th and April 10th. If a property changes ownership during the year, a
supplemental tax bill will be prepared prorating the tax increase due to a change in valuation over the remainder of the fiscal year. If a change in ownership occurs between January 1 and May 31 this will result  in two supplemental assessments and two supplemental tax bills. The first supplemental bill is for the remainder of the fiscal year in which the event occurred. The second supplemental bill is for the subsequent fiscal year.

Property Transfer Tax: The County of Los Angeles levies a transfer tax upon the sale of a property of $1.10 per thousand dollars of the sale price. The City of Redondo Beach levies an additional transfer tax of $2.20 per thousand dollars.

According to Neighborhood Scout's analysis of FBI crime statistics, the chances of becoming a crime victim in Redondo Beach is 1 in 344 making the crime rate near average for cities and towns of all sizes. But when you compare it to other communities of similar population size, Redondo Beach has a crime rate that is noticeably lower than average.
